Partial Area Copy
In a partial area copy, not the entire storage media (drive/partition) of source and/or target will be used, but only a partial area.
An exact sector area can be chosen for the source and the target media under Advanced Options. Enter the beginning sector of the area, which will be included in the area due to being interpreted as its first sector. Enter the sector count. The end sector will then automatically adjust to reflect the sector count starting at the first sector. The end sector shown is the last sector to be included.
Note: The count starts at '0' (= first sector of the media), this means that 1 must be subtracted from each sector number that follows (e.g. 0 - 99 defines the first 100 sectors on the media as an area). |
Warning: Only use the partial area copy if you have a complete understanding of its mode of function. An inaccurately defined sector area may lead to data loss or may render the result unusable. |
A sector area is defined as a connected area of sectors on a storage media which, in the case of partitions, is relative to their starting positions. HDClone will then copy the first sector of the source to the first sector of the target area, and so on. In comparison to a normal copy, the main difference is that the defined partial area is cloned instead of the entire drive or partition.
Example: Sectors 0 - 31 For drives, this defines the (absolute) first 32 sectors. The absolute position of the partition's first 32 sectors depends on its (absolute) start on the drive. |
