Booting the Program

Should issues arise while booting the program from a USB stick or a CD/DVD (for example if the screen turns black or if the startup screen freezes), appropriate solutions are described below.

BIOS USB Boot

If the boot media (USB stick or CD/DVD drive) is not listed in the BBS menu, activate USB boot support in the BIOS setup. Press  F2  Del  or  F10  (depending on the BIOS) to enter BIOS setup. The setting can be found under different names and menu items, depending on the BIOS version. In most cases, it can be located under terms such as  USB Boot and Legacy. In the BIOS setup you can also opt to boot from USB permanently, usually by using the menu item Boot.

UEFI Boot and SecureBoot

Later PCs often have a UEFI BIOS. The program supports booting with UEFI. Some PCs also offer the SecureBoot function, which is also supported. Should you encounter problems with SecureBoot, deactivate this function prior to booting the program. You may reactivate SecureBoot again afterwards. If issues still occur while booting with UEFI, recreate the boot media with the Boot Setup while the UEFI Boot Support option is deactivated, then repeat the boot process.

Note: In newer versions of Windows, especially starting at Windows 8, UEFI BIOS can often only be accessed through the operating system. The easiest way to achieve this is via the login screen. Click on the On/Off icon to open the menu upon restart. Keep the Shift button pressed while clicking on Restart. This will take you to a blue screen titled  Choose an option . Here you can select  Troubleshoot . On the next screen, select Advanced options, then select  UEFI Firmware Settings  on the final screen.
