DiskTest
The DiskTest checks the surfaces of disks, SSDs, flash drives and USB sticks for bad sectors. Bad sectors can sometimes corrupt saved data and affect the performance of your system.
Warning: The disk will be overwritten during the test. Any previous data will be irretrievably lost. |

Disk
Choose the disk on which you would like to execute the test. For more information on how to choose a disk, see the section on disk selection.
Test mode
Select one of the following test modes for the DiskTest:
- Random Bit-pattern Test (2 runs) with Anti-Mirroring: A straightforward basic test that saves time with 2 runs (writing x1 and verified read x1). Tests all of the media sectors and detects defective sectors and mirrored storage areas.
- Bit-pattern test (4 runs) with Anti-Mirroring: An advanced test that provides higher accuracy with a longer duration with 4 runs (writing x2 and verified read x2). Tests all sectors and bit conditions and detects defective sectors, faulty bits and mirrored storage areas.
Options
The Options section offers general choices for the DiskTest.
- Trim: Unused data blocks are deallocated which may speed up writing for SSDs during and after cloning.
- Format upon completion: Format the tested disk with a selected file system after the process is completed.
Shut Down Computer Automatically
You can choose to have the computer shut down automatically after the copying process. Specify the scenario after which the computer is supposed to be shut down:
- Only after an error-free process: the computer will only be shut down if absolutely no errors occurred during the process.
- Even after a partially successful process: the computer will be shut down if errors occurred during the process that did not impact the success of the result
- In any event: The computer will be shut down even if the process was completed with errors.
In any case, a report will be stored automatically.
Advanced Options
In addition to the options above, there are Advanced Options … to choose from.
- Limit speed to: Reduces the writing speed, as the level of HDClone's performance may lead to excessive strain on some of the faster SSD models.
Start DiskTest
Click Start to begin testing. The status will be shown in the progress bar in percent (%), along with information about the active part of the process, data transfer rate and the duration. To stop the process, click on Cancel .
Finish
Once the process is completed, the Progress and Status indicator will appear to inform you of the process and the result of the test. You may also open the status component with
while the process is still active to track the details of the run.
