The Partition Expert offers basic functions to create, change or delete partitions on a disk. The traditional MBR partition scheme and the modern GPT scheme are supported.

Upon starting the Partition Expert, a drive list (Fig. 2) will appear from which the desired disk can be selected. You may reinvoke this list at any later time by using the disk button (Fig. 1) in order to select a different disk.

The program screen is divided into two general areas, at the top and at the bottom. The top field shows the MBR partition entries and the bottom field shows the GPT entries. The entry count always correlates with the already-created data fields, even if they are still empty. This especially applies to the GPT field which most of the time will contain 128 entries, although most of these entries are not normally used. In the case of the MBR scheme, there are only four basic entries, yet the Partition Expert will also show the entries of Advanced Partitions – they are displayed under their respective basic entry. These are represented in a visually summarized fashion.
You may change the entries for both partition tables (MBR and GPT) as needed. The changes will be marked in red, yet will not immediately be saved and can still be discarded. The changed data will only be written to the disk upon saving ( Save changes button).
The same applies to the “empty” entries because they are already created, yet do not contain any valid partition data and are therefore displayed as empty. Yet they are treated in the same manner as already-"occupied" entries.
